DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The buildings and property that was formerly the Hills Youth and Family Services in Duluth has been sold to Stella Maris Academy.
The sale closed this week and it is expected to open as a Catholic high school in the fall of 2022.
The 4 million dollar purchase was secured through private donations and returns the facility to its Catholic origins.
It opened originally as the St. James Orphanage in 1910 and was sold by the Diocese of Duluth to Woodland Hills in 1971.
The Hills closed to clients in June of this year and Stella Maris submitted a purchase offer.
The 140 acre property includes a main campus building, a gymnasium and numerous outbuildings.
Appropriate learning center renovations will be made in the coming months and a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at a future date.
