This week on The WEVE Morning Show, our Artist of the Week was Maggie Rogers. Originally from Maryland, she got her big break when Pharrell Williams heard her song “Alaska” during a Masterclass presentation in 2016. She’s been nominated for a Grammy and is currently in school for her master’s degree, which is to be admired!
Albums include “Heard In A Past Life” and “Notes From The Archive: Recordings 2011-2016” which comprises some of the work Rogers placed on two independent albums released prior to her debut album.
Rogers brings a voice to her songs that has a more reserved quality when compared to the female vocalists you may have heard on WEVE previously. A quick thing to note however is that she is still able to pack her songs with emotion, in particular on her 2018 single “Light On” which topped the charts at #1 on the Adult Album Alternative Chart (AAA). Instrumentals manage to keep a pop tone that you’ll find familiar and comforting, but also stray into new territory, with acoustic guitars and other folk instruments.
Here is a YouTube playlist of the songs we shared on The WEVE Morning Show this week from Maggie Rogers. Check it out, and listen to 97.9 WEVE weekday mornings around 8:20 to see who our next artist of the week is.
