This week on The WEVE Morning Show, our Artist of the Week was Florence & The Machine. Forming in London in 2007 and centered around frontwoman Florence Welch and her powerful vocals, this rock band from across the pond has delighted fans for 15 years, including us here at WEVE!
Albums released by Florence & The Machine include “Lungs”, “Ceremonials”, “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful”, “High As Hope”, and the upcoming “Dance Fever” which releases later this year. The songs you may hear on WEVE come from the first two albums and include “Dog Days Are Over” and “Shake It Off”, which is my personal favorite from the band. Since these releases, Florence & The Machine has yet to see another single released to a station like ours, but the band has made it big on the alternative scene, keeping their sound that made them famous in the first place, while also not being afraid to experiment with new elements.
Lead vocalist Florence Welch has a voice that I find absolutely stunning. Described as “dark”, “robust”, and “romantic” by critics, the power and depth Welch’s voice has will leave you in awe each and every time you hear it. A good example of the vocal range Welch possesses is seen on the final song on our playlist “Wish That You Were Here” which was used in the soundtrack for the 2016 film “Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”
Here is a YouTube playlist of the songs we shared on The WEVE Morning Show this week from Florence & The Machine. Check it out, and listen to 97.9 WEVE weekday mornings around 8:20 to see who our next artist of the week is.
