Matt Niskanen was recently announced as the new head coach for the Rock Ridge Wolverines Boys Hockey team, and will be coaching the team this upcoming season. If you didn’t know, Niskanen grew up here on the Iron Range, playing for the Virginia Blue Devils. He would then go on to play hockey at the college level, and spend 14 seasons in the NHL. Now back on the Iron Range, he’s very excited to be able to give back by coaching the Wolverines. There’s been a lot of buzz around his hiring already this week, and that buzz is all but certain to continue as the regular season draws near.
Hear my full conversation with Coach Niskanen below. My thanks to Rock Ridge Athletic/Activities Directors Chad Hazelton and Josh Lamppa for helping set up this interview!
