AMNICON TOWNSHIP, WI (KDAL) – A head-on, wrong way crash on southbound Highway 53 in Douglas County Wednesday afternoon left two people dead.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department says a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes collided with a southbound vehicle between Berg Park Road and Kent Road in Amnicon Township.
The drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles and both died in the crash.
Traffic on southbound Highway 53 in the area was detoured for several hours following the crash that was reported at 2:12 p-m.
UPDATE: New information from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department indicates the crash occurred in Hawthorne Township. According to witness statements and evidence at the scene, a white 2020 Subaru Forester being driven by Daniel W. Ohara, 77, of Duluth was traveling north in the southbound left lane where it collided with a southbound 2010 Dodge Caravan being driven by Todd M. Eckart, 61, of Duluth.
