ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – If you plan on a camping trip to a Minnesota State Park or Forest, there are rules to follow to slow the spread of invasive species that can be carried in firewood.
Don’t bring firewood with you, instead buy it from the area where you plan to burn it.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) says certified firewood can be be purchased at gas stations, big box stores or at state parks.
Local non-certified wood can be used if it is harvested in the same county where it will be burned. Also allowed is lumber scraps that are kiln dried, unpainted and free of any metal or foreign substances.
Check the Minnesota Department of Agriculture firewood page for information on firewood and pest quarantines that may be in place https://www.mda.state.mn.us/plants-insects/firewood-minnesota
