ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Department of Health has confirmed that a lab found the Omicron variant of COVID in a specimen from a Minnesota resident with a recent travel history to New York City.
The variant was found through the Department of Health surveillance program, one of the strongest in the nation.
The unidentified person with the Omicron variant is a vaccinated adult male from Hennepin County.
The person had mild symptoms and was tested on November 24th and has since recovered.
Health officials says the best way to protect against COVID, including the Omicron variant is to get vaccinated, get a booster if eligible and wear a mask in crowded indoor settings.
The Minnesota case is the second confirmed Omicron variant in the country with the first reported in California.
