This week on The WEVE Morning Show, we debuted a new segment titled “Artist of the Week”. This segment is going to spotlight music discovery. Songs from artists you’ve never heard before, deeper cuts from the artists we all know and love, and some treasures from the back catalogue of the one hit wonders of yesterday and today!
The artist in focus this week was Anderson East, a rock musician hailing from Athens, Alabama. He has released three studio albums, “Delilah” in 2015 for his debut, sophomore release “Encore” in 2018 (my favorite of his discography), and 2021’s “Maybe We Never Die”, which sees East stray a little closer to pop rock similar to say Gavin DeGraw or Ed Sheeran, but still features many wonderful songs.
East’s music is similar in some ways to the classic pop rock tunes we heard in decades past. You’ll hear brass arrangements right alongside the guitar, keys, and drums in many of his songs. You’ll also notice a very husky sounding voice on East, which allows him to belt out his lyrics in a raw manner that really adds a layer of depth to his songs.
Here is a YouTube playlist of the songs we shared on The WEVE Morning Show this week from East. Check it out, and listen to 97.9 WEVE weekday mornings around 8:20 to see who our next artist of the week is.
