UPDATE: The National Weather Service Office in Duluth has now expanded the Winter Storm Watch to include portions of northeast Minnesota where 5 to 9 inches of snow is possible.
DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A slow moving low pressure system will be affecting much of the Northland over the next several days.
Following another warm day Wednesday, light freezing rain and snow will begin moving into the region Thursday morning.
Two to three inches of snow is likely in most areas Thursday, but the south shore of Lake Superior has a Winter Storm Watch for higher amounts.
The snow is expected to continue Thursday night and Friday with totals up to six inches in northeast Minnesota.
The snowbelt areas of Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland and Iron Counties in northern Wisconsin could see lake effect snow of eight inches to a foot in some areas through Saturday morning.
Travel will be difficult as roads become snow covered and slippery.
