DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – After arriving in May, a new male red panda made his public debut earlier this month at the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth.
The red panda named Wiley was born in June of 2024 and was sent to Duluth from the Potter Zoo in Michigan as part of the species survival plan.
Red pandas are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and their population in the wild continues to decrease.
Wiley joins Zoozee, the current female red panda at the zoo. They are naturally solitary animals in the wild and zoo keepers say Wiley and Zoozee are mostly keeping to themselves after the two were introduced with minimal issues.
Wiley was recommended to come to the Lake Superior Zoo for his long term breeding potential.
Guests can now visit the panda habitat at the zoo and behind the scene red panda tours are also available. Get more info at LSZoo.org
