DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Now that the new school year is underway, Duluth Police are reminding motorists to keep kids safe by obeying the stop arms on school buses.
Last year there were 142 stop arm violations, the highest number in the last three years. Already this year, 40 stop arm violations have occurred.
When traveling, police say to slow down and prepare to stop whenever you see a bus with flashing yellow lights which indicates the bus is about to stop.
When approaching or following a school bus, flashing red lights with an extended stop arm means you must stop until the bus begins moving again.
If you violate the stop arm law, expect a citation.
All Duluth school buses are equipped with high quality camera systems to hold stop arm violators accountable.
