DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now-KDAL) – The Minnesota DNR has taken the lead in fighting a wildfire on the north shore, located just north of Finland.
On Thursday night the blaze, burning in a remote part of the George Crosby Manitou State Park, was listed as 25 percent contained.
The Crosby Fire was first reported on Wednesday evening and was detected through aerial observation.
Response crews estimated the fire started at about 30 acres in size and has now grown to 160 acres despite aircraft bringing in water to the scene.
The Minnesota Interagency Fire Center public information officer says there are about 27 firefighters stationed around the perimeter of the fire to help prevent it from spreading.
Because of the rough terrain it is difficult to get heavy equipment to the area so mainly ground workers and aircraft continue to work the fire.
