DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – In their final meeting of the year on Monday the Duluth City Council approved a 4.9 percent increase in the tax levy for 2026.
When factoring in new development in the city, the net increase for existing property would be 3.5 percent. That is still higher than Mayor Roger Reinert’s requested levy increase of 2.7 percent.
Reinert says he respects the council’s action to up the levy and spending but says it will only make next year’s budget deficit more challenging.
On Tuesday, the St. Louis County Board approved a 564 million dollar budget for 2026 which includes a 12.4 percent increase in the property tax levy from this year.
The County budget reflects rising health care costs, reductions in state and federal funding and investments in critical infrastructure needs
