This week on The WEVE Morning Show, our Artist of the Week was The Police! Forming in England in 1977 and emerging as part of the British New Wave Era of music, this rock band from across the pond has delighted fans for over 40 years, including us here at WEVE!
The Police have released five albums, and spawned many hits. Some of those hits include songs you frequently hear on WEVE, including “Message In A Bottle”, “Don’t Stand So Close To Me”, and “Roxanne” which is a song my classmates loved to sing in high school, particularly the chorus. It was at that time I understood The Police were instrumental to the classic rock and roll landscape, and it’s a large part of why I chose to deep dive into their back catalog this week. I love to look through the extensive song list of a band and find new favorites to go along with the songs I’ve been enjoying for so long, and I definitely did that this week!
You may recognize the lead vocalist of this band, and it’s for good reason. Popular singer Sting, who also released the song “Brand New Day” heard on WEVE is the lead vocalist for The Police. His distinct voice fits these classic rock instrumentals very well.
Here is a YouTube playlist of the songs we shared on The WEVE Morning Show this week from The Police. Check it out, and listen to 97.9 WEVE weekday mornings around 8:20 to see who our next artist of the week is.
