SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – Superior Police have provided an update on the officer involved shooting that occurred on April 7th.
The investigation into the fatal shooting is being handled by the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation.
However, the Superior Police Chief, Paul Winterscheidt, says some information can be responsibly shared with the public to help counter the misinformation that is circulating on social media.
The victim of the shooting has been identified as 42 year old David Donald Ducado Menton.
The initial investigation by the DOJ indicated that a firearm was recovered at the scene and can be seen on body cam footage. Body cam video also confirms that officers rendered aid following the shooting.
The DOJ investigation is a lengthy process that includes forensic analysis and evaluation of all available evidence.
Chief Winterscheidt understands that the public often desires immediate answers but he says it is “critical that conclusions are based on verified facts, not speculation or incomplete information.”
He says the Police Department remains fully cooperative and committed to a transparent investigative process.
