New York City FC midfielder Maxi Moralez will have season-ending surgery for a torn left ACL, the team announced on Thursday.
Moralez, 39, sustained the non-contact injury during the first half of Saturday’s 1-1 road draw with the rival New York Red Bulls in Harrison, N.J.
The Argentina native will have surgery in the coming weeks at New York’s Montefiore Einstein Medical Center, according to the club.
Moralez has one goal and six assists through 14 MLS matches (all starts) this season, his 10th campaign with NYCFC. He has 30 goals and 91 assists in 231 career games (210 starts).
New York City FC also announced that defender Kevin O’Toole underwent successful surgery last week on his groin and abdomen.
O’Toole, 27, has one assist in 10 starts this season. He has two goals and four assists in 90 matches (75 starts) since making his MLS debut with NYCFC in 2022.
