DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – As the 50th annual Grandma’s Marathon ended on Saturday, preparations are already underway for next year’s 51st.
There were a record 9,594 finishers of the marathon this year breaking the 2025 record by more than 2,000.
Leading the way in the men’s division was Amanuel Mesel who pulled away from six time winner Elisha Barno on the way to a finishing time of 2:11:21.
On the women’s side, Dakotah Popehn won her third Grandma’s title, topping 2nd place finisher Bashanke Bilo by 45 seconds with a time of 2:28:51.
In the Garry Bjorklund half marathon, 14 year old Acer Iverson beat past champions and former Olympians to win with a time of 1:01:15. Aidan Reed finished second with a time of 1:01:26.
Kasandra Parker was the winner in the women’s division with a time of 1:10:16 topping Madey Dickson who finished 2nd in 1:11:35.
The Friday William A. Irvin 5K found Mason Shea winning his 4th title with a time of 14:58. Colton Goucher was the runner-up with a time of 16:05.
Last year’s 5K female winner Mackenzie Myran, who is now 14 years old, topped the field again with a time of 18:06. 2nd place went to Regan Niemi at 18:28.
There were 2,525 finishers in the 5K, just short of last year’s record number.
