DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The apparent best value contractor for the Blatnik Bridge replacement project has been announced by the Minnesota and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation.
The best value system combines a bidder’s technical score and price to determine who will be awarded the contract.
Ames-Kraemer Joint Venture II satisfied the design and construction requirements with a bid of 930 million dollars.
The states and the company now have up to 60 days before the contract is awarded and until then confidential details of the technical proposal cannot be discussed.
The Blatnik Bridge opened in 1961 and averages 33 thousand vehicles a day. The condition of the bridge has deteriorated and is nearing the end of its usable life.
The bridge replacement project is estimated to be completed in six years and will require the closure and destruction of the current bridge beginning next year.
A public meeting will be held in September to give an update on the project and will include details on the design of the new bridge.
