ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has reached an agreement with Enbridge Energy to address a 2022 Moose Lake aquifer breach related to the Line 3 replacement project.
As part of the resolution, Enbridge has agreed to fund 1.2 million dollars in Supplemental Environmental Projects that would be selected by the DNR.
Enbridge will pay 300 thousand dollars to address violations associated with the aquifer breach and fund a hundred thousand dollars for ongoing monitoring of the Moose Lake site.
Enbridge will also provide 1.2 million dollars in financial assurance to mitigate any potential future impacts of the breach.
Enbridge first reported the upwelling of groundwater at the Moose Lake site in August of 2022 and performed corrective actions over the next several months designed to stabilize the site under DNR oversite.
