ORR, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department has identified and taken into custody the man suspected of shooting at a fire suppression aircraft near Orr on Friday.
The fire water bomber was hit by gunfire while assisting in fighting a wildfire in Portage Township.
The Sheriff’s Office says they arrested a 48 year old resident of Orr on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, 2nd degree assault and felony criminal damage to property.
A search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence where several firearms and ammunition was seized.
The Sheriff’s Office investigation into the shooting was assisted by the FAA, the FBI, the DNR, Minnesota BCA, Minnesota State Patrol and the Duluth and Superior Police Departments.
