“I heard it on the Radio!”
Right?
Haven’t we all said that exact phrase, about new music, an old favorite, a sport score, a news story, or just a funny antidote?
I believe that is the gift of Radio – connecting with people; and it is why I fell in love with Radio Broadcasting!
I am thrilled to be part of the Midwest Communications family, here in Hibbing. I look forward to serving each of you!
Let me introduce myself:
My name is Ben Lundsten. I grew up in the Twin Cities, attending Mahtomedi High School and then the University of Northwestern – St. Paul. I graduated with a degree in Media Communications: Radio Broadcasting and with a minor in Sports Communication. While at UNW, I was the Sports Director for our student-run radio station for three years and the General Manager during my Senior year. During those years I hosted and/or co-hosted several weekly shows: The Weekend Wrap-up, Chatterbox Sports, Just for Kicks, and Movie Morning Madness. In addition, I wrote and produced my own podcast, The World of Sports with Ben Lundsten.
As you might be able to tell, originally, I thought that I wanted to go into Sports Broadcasting. However, with my UNW classes and an internship at KTIS radio, I fell in love with other parts of Radio!
I believe that Radio is a place to be authentic and offer the listener something that transports them out of day-to-day life, even if only for a moment. Don’t worry – I still love sports! Prior to my move to Hibbing and WEVE, I was the News Announcer/Reporter for a local Iowa radio station. Since I could not keep all my sports’ opinions to myself, aside from my news role, the sports director and I started a weekly podcast, talking all things sports!
While I am passionate about college football, I do have other interests. I also enjoy running; I ran Cross Country and Track all through high school and college. I have run a Half-Marathon and will probably go for a full one at some point. Studying history is another interest of mine, particularly WWII. I am also a pretty big movie fan. I enjoy many different genres, including documentaries. And I am always happy to dissect any STAR Wars or Harry Potter movie! I moved up here to the Northland in January (I knew it would be cold, but – WOW!), so I am just getting to know the treasures of the area – both in people and places. Please, if you see me around, say hi and tell me your story. You know that I want to hear it and have a conversation – I mean, I’m on the radio – that’s what I like to do – talk!
There’s always the extraordinary to be found in the ordinary – let’s discover all of ours together!
